Effective 2nd Grade Classroom Setup
In my classroom, I plan to have a teacher table at the back of the classroom where students can come for one-on-one help, or when we do small groups. For seating, I would like to have groups of 4-5 at a “table”, which is really just desks grouped together so it can be easily adjusted. I will offer flexible seating for students. I really want to have a separate little nook or area dedicated to being a classroom library. I plan to incorporate bright and colorful decorations and themes into my classroom to foster a happy environment. As far as lighting goes, I will probably have a few lamps throughout the room to give extra light. It is important to me that my classroom is organized and everything has its own place so I know where to look for things. I will have my smart board at the front of my classroom and have every child’s seat facing it. If I get placed in a room with enough space, I would love to have designated center stations. One thing that is very important to me is that I have either a built-in closet or a file closet to have hygiene materials, snacks, all basic necessities for students to come to whenever they need and create that safe space in the classroom that they know they can go to no matter what.
