My name is Mary Dyson Hughey, and I am currently a senior at the College of Charleston. I am originally from Greenville, South Carolina and I hope to pursue my teaching career somewhere around there. 

​

After I graduate from College of Charleston in May of 2023, I plan to teach for a year and then get my masters while still being in the classroom during my second year teaching. I'm not sure right now what I would like to specialize in or what school I would like to get this degree from, but I know that that's something I am going to pursue!

In my free time, I love spending time with my friends and family. I am the oldest of three sisters, so it's like two built in best friends! My middle sister, Hayden, is a junior at Clemson University and you can often find us chatting whether it's over text, FaceTime, or in person as much as we can! We love to visit each other at school whenever our schedules allow! My youngest sister, Ellison, is a sophomore at Greenville High school and she is a mini version of me! Although we are 7 years apart, we are very close and talk all of the time! My parents are some of my biggest supporters and I love spending time with them! They love to come visit me when they can and have fun weekend in Charleston! The best visits from them are when they bring my dog, Louie, along as he is our family's fourth child!

During my time at College of Charleston, I have gotten involved in many on-campus activities! I have joined Best Buddies club, Relay for Life, and Greek Emerging Leaders. I am a member of Delta Gamma where I am the former Director of E-Comm, where I maintained all of the chapter's social media, and I am the current Director of Social Events, where I plan all events and gatherings for the chapter.

Something that I am very passionate about is my faith. I have been a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church in Greenville, SC since I was born. During my earlier years, I was heavily involved in my church from youth worship team and youth board, to leading worship for the whole congregation at our contemporary services. Another big part of my spiritual and personal life is missions and outreach. I have done several local outreach projects in Greenville, but I have also gone on a mission trip to Rwanda, Africa, Antigua, Guatemala, & San Ramon, Costa Rica. Serving others in need is so dear to me and has given me a new perspective on my life. I hope to continue with mission and outreach, whether it be local or global, as it is something that I am so passionate about. In Charleston, I attend Seacoast church, where I plan to get more involved in the coming months.
